He's just as stingy with his productions as he has been ever since the second Streets album, so those who ache for the crystalline production perfection of Original Pirate Material won't find much here to cling to. But singing (or speaking) words of wisdom like this certainly makes up for his gradual move away from the super-producer status he's enjoyed in the past. Suddenly optimistic, or at least philosophical, about life, Skinner catches lightning in the bottle for the third time, and makes it clear that once we're able to look back at the Streets discography — Skinner has promised that this is the fourth of five — it will be easy to see The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living much more simply, troubled and frustrating though it was, as a way to exorcise some of his darker demons, and make the journey to the light more invigorating.

Here’s the new album from British rapper The Streets. All I’ve ever checked out from him, to be honest, is his 2004 A Grand Don’t Come for Free, but I liked it quite a bit.

• Artist: • Album: (Mar 25, 2002) • Format: flac - lossy • Summary [Last.fm]: Mike Skinner (born November 27, 1978), more commonly known by his stage name The Streets, is a rapper from Birmingham, England. He was born in Barnet in North London and that's where his accent, sometimes called 'Mockney' by the press, comes from. You can hear his actual accent on the start of 'Fake Streets Hats' from his album The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living recorded in 2006. He moved to Birmingham shortly after he was born and is a Birmingham City fan.

Here’s the new album from British rapper The Streets. All I’ve ever checked out from him, to be honest, is his 2004 A Grand Don’t Come for Free, but I liked it quite a bit. I’ll be giving this a listen, and I hope anyone out there who likes alternative hip hop does the same. Six years ago The Streets’ Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Original Pirate Material seemed to emerge from nowhere and established Mike Skinner as a witty and original MC-ing proposition – a motor-mouthed phoenix from the ashes of the UK garage scene.

Emerging from the UK's grimecore scene with Dizzee Rascal, The Streets broke out by documenting the formerly mundane elements of everyday life behind garage beats and the Rn'B prowess of hook-singer Leo the Lion. While The Streets' debut in 2002 was a hit, their albums have gotten better with every turn, including a concept album in 2004's A Grand Don't Come for Free and 2006's decadent The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living. Leo the Lion is no where to be found on Everything is Borrowed, as Skinner has assumed almost all of the responsibility for singing the hooks now. It's cool to hear Skinner's singing voice grow stronger from some pitchy moments on Grand to competent performances on new tracks like 'The Way of the Dodo'. But Skinner's bread and butter is his lyrics and there are some classic moments on Borrowed like 'Heaven for the Weather'. There's a lot more live instrumentation this time too, like some great reggae-tinged guitar on 'Never Give In'. Lily Allen shows up on the title track.

Bet you didn’t know that, either, wise guy. ‘His current live-line up consists’ Whose lineup? The Streets’ lineup, that’s who! Yeah, there is almost no artist on earth, at least with the monetary backing, that tours alone. That doesn’t change the fact that Mike Skinner has always gone, musically, by the moniker of ‘The Streets”. It’s really not an arguable point, as it is fact, from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Biography: ‘The Streets, or Mike Skinner to his mum, burst onto the UK music scene in 2002.

Six years ago The Streets’ Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Original Pirate Material seemed to emerge from nowhere and established Mike Skinner as a witty and original MC-ing proposition – a motor-mouthed phoenix from the ashes of the UK garage scene. His follow up A Grand Don’t Come For Free (2004) – a concept album, a hip-hopera, whatever you wanted to call it – took Skinner to a completely new level of success (three million copies sold, a number one single and album, multiple Brit and Ivor Novello awards). It also gave a totally authentic but superbly artful voice to the real middle England – the middle England not of warm beer and cricket, but of Barratt Homes and Bacardi Breezers.

Fast forward to his last album The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living (2006) – perhaps the most action-packed thirty-seven minutes in the history of pop, or rap, or rock and roll come to that – was nothing short of a voyage to the heart of celebrity darkness. Which brings us neatly to 2008 – The Streets fourth album is complete and set for release on September 15th. Everything Is Borrowed is a reminder of why we all fell in love with The Streets in the first place. It’s a charming, thoughtful and incisive album melding the very best components of the first three albums while managing to, as ever, sound refreshingly new. The title track Everything Is Borrowed will be released as a single on September 29th. Track Listing: 1.

However, his vocal delivery is very awkward for the most part, which isn't helped by the pairing of lines that not only don't rhyme, but lack rhythmic consistency, like the guy was just jotting down a brainstorm of random philosophical ideas and used them as final lyrics. It's an album likely to turn away quite a few of his early fans, but you can't knock the guy too much for doing what he wanted with his musical direction.

The critics of NME, Rolling Stone, Spin, New York Times, USA Today and LA Times included Original Pirate Material in the lists of the best collections. The next album A Grand Don't Come for Free, released in 2004, was very successful commercially mostly due to smash-hits Fit But You Know It, Dry Your Eyes, Blinded by the Lights and Could Well Be In.

He decided to eschew references to modern life, drama and fame in favour of positivity, philosophy and religious references. It's quite an ambitious left turn considering the aggressive nature of albums like A Grand Don't Come for Free. Lyrically, it shows a very different side to Skinner, and musically it is considerably more atmospheric and mellow.

I had a meeting every wednesday at 1 p.m. And I always listened to a program called The Mystery Year which was about guessing a certain year by just some headlines and some music from that very year.

Everything Is Borrowed is the penultimate album from The Streets; Skinner has said that he signed a five-record deal, and that he always envisioned a five-album. By the end of the last album,, listeners and even most fans were ready for to stop complaining about the perils of celebrity. Sounded crass and cynical, utterly disgusted with his life and very bitter about what it had become. (In so doing, it proved that he's one of the most honest songwriters to ever step up to a microphone.) is a neat about-face, a record that couldn't be more different from its predecessor. Sincere, considered, and poignant, finds remaining one of the foremost lyricists in pop music, and so much the better when the focus of his sharp writing is the struggle of weighty concepts instead of flimsy celebrity. 's characters in these parables are struggling, no doubt, but in the process they're also coming upon profound insights about life, death, and love, ranging from the slightly pithy ecology dance piece 'The Way of the Dodo' all the way up to the struggle between good and evil in each person ('Heaven for the Weather,' which reveals its odd title and its lyrical genius in the line 'I want to go to heaven for the weather/But hell for the company').
