In this post I will discuss both the reasons and share the solutions. Laptop Battery Not Charging Because Of Heating Issue First problem which is there with some of the HP laptops is the battery charging stops when the laptop heats up. This is a weird problem, but the HP service center guy told me that the battery sensor malfunctions if it gets too hot and the charging stops. With old laptops with heating issues, this problem is very common. The work-around for this problem is to keep running on mains power or switch off the laptop for sometime to allow it to cool off. A better solution to this problem is to get the laptop services and remove the heating problem by getting the cooling ducts clean.

Microsoft composit battery Hello, The Microsoft Composite Battery Driver doesn't affect the charging of the battery. Hardware Charging Circuit controls the charging function of the battery, it's a part of the motherboard installed in the laptop.

Hello all, I've spent a good few days trying everything the internet has thrown up to fix my mistake but nothing has worked. I shall list my attempts to fix subsequently. My problem is this: six days ago, I was using my laptop on its battery and I noticed that the battery icon in the notification bar still showed the mains plug and claimed it was at 100% charge, which it wouldn't be after at least 45 minutes of use. Plugging my laptop back into the mains, restarting and running from the mains, then unplugging it did not change this icon at all. I searched for a way to fix this problem, and came across deleting and reinstalling the driver from Device Manager > Batteries and deleting 'Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery' then Action > Scan for hardware changes. Unfortunately, I closed the Device Manager window by mistake before I scanned for changes, so when I reopened it the hardware change was not registered, so there was no ability to reinstall the recently deleted driver.

I have an Acer Aspire V3-771 laptop (which is three and a half years old) with its original battery. As the battery is not holding the charge for as long as it used to I decided to replace it. I inserted he new battery, which already showed a charge of 60%, and let it run down to the point when the laptop turned itself off. However, when I tried to recharge the battery, the battery icon showed '6% available, plugged in, not charging'. I contacted the supplier of the battery and they sent me a new one. This showed an initial charge of 93% so, in view of my problem with the previous battery, I decided to try and charge it up to full capacity before letting it run down. But as soon as I tried this the battery icon showed '93% available, plugged in, not charging'.

You are a privileged HP customer. It is a genuine pleasure to serve you.:) First off, it looks like the battery is faulty or is not getting detected by the battery controllers that charge the battery. • Did you check by unplugging the charger if the battery holds any charge? • Have you tried a different battery if it is possible to get hold of one? • Have yo tried charging the battery with a different charger Please perform these steps to try and correct the situation from this link “HP Notebook PCs - Battery Not Detected” If this does not work please run F2 diagnostics on the battery from this link: and run the “UEFI Component Tests” for power and battery.

I uninstalled 'Microsoft Composite Battery' driver by mistake. How can I install it again? In Device Manager, under Batteries there should be 3 drivers: 1 - Microsoft AC Adapter 2 - Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery 3 - Microsoft Composite Battery. No, another system update happened after that:( I tried with 'scan for hardware changes' but still it's not coming up.

I have no problem charging the old battery, so can anyone please suggest what the problem might be? I have tried taking out the battery and unplugging the charger and holding down the power button for 30 seconds, but this hasn't worked. Grateful for any advice.

Please post back with the issue status.

Most times it should be on as most keyboards and mice want it that way. Microsoft Composite Battery Windows 10

The Microsoft Composite Battery component provides the Microsoft-supplied Composite Battery Driver, a kernel-mode driver, in the compbatt.sys file. The composite battery driver tracks the status of system batteries and serves as an intermediary between the Power Manager and the battery class and mini class drivers. The Exclamation mark in the Device manager indicates that this driver is missing. That could be one of the reason the power option is missing in Control Panel. I request you to uninstall ‘Microsoft AC adapter’ and ‘Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery’ in Device Manager and restart the system.
